I knew David since we were students together in the Salem First Friends Church boys'
Sunday School class (See photo above, circa 1950).. During our lifelong friendship, David always conducted himself with grace and dignity, even under difficult circumstances. I never heard him say any disparaging or sarcastic word about anyone or anything, ever; and I admired him for that. His presence in our lives will be missed.

David and Marsine were a perfect couple. They always went above and beyond with dedication and goodwill in their hearts. Finally, their involvement with the museum was unmatched. Again, I can't imagine the number of volunteer hours they gave to the museum. Due to their dedication, the museum is what it is today. There aren't enough thanks for all they have done for their community, often behind the scenes and often without credit.
David, you are greatly missed. Someday, I know we will meet again. Oh and....Go Quakers!
~David
David Stratton will be greatly missed. He was always cheerful, helpful, encouraging and knowledgeable. He never forgot to thank us for being at the museum and the work that we accomplished.

I always thought of David as “Mr. Salem” because of his vast knowledge of our history and Salem people. He had a teacher’s heart as he loved to share stories and facts whenever we had questions or when something triggered his memory. He was dependable and willing to help any way he could. I will always be grateful for his encouragement and words of appreciation for the work we were doing. David was a great person.

Little did I know when I sat at David Stratton’s desk in 2012 to buy trolley tour tickets that I would leave the museum as a new member and a new volunteer. David Stratton’s calm and kind spirit made me feel completely comfortable to be part of this atmosphere. Because of him, I have grown and honed skills I did not know I had. My life truly has been enriched from knowing and working with him. Thank you David.

Mr. Stratton was the first student to set foot inside the new Buckeye Elementary building in 1948. Never mind that, at the age of 6 years, he crawled in through a vent duct while the building was under construction. I am sure he would tell you it still counts.
